If you live in Kilmarnock or the villages around it, your bins are about to change. East Ayrshire Council is rolling out its new collection service to the north of the area from October 2026 — and the biggest change is that your general waste bin will be emptied once every four weeks.
Side by side
What’s changing
- General waste: one collection every four weeks.
- The recycling trolley goes. In its place come three separate wheelie bins for recycling, each on the same four-weekly cycle.
- Food waste stays weekly. Eight collections every four weeks in total.
- Nothing changes until your new bins arrive. Cumnock moved first in May, then Patna, Dalmellington, Bellsbank and Drongan.
Children in nappies? The council provides additional capacity bins for disposable nappies — it’s worth asking before the switch.

Four weeks is a long time for a full bin
For a lot of houses it will work fine. For some it won’t: a big family, a birthday, visitors for a week, a clear-out, the fortnight after Christmas. The rules don’t bend for any of that — the lid has to close, and extra bags left beside the bin won’t be taken.
When it’s full before the lorry’s due
That’s the gap we fill. Johns Waste Management empties any wheelie bin for £20 flat — usually the next day, seven days a week. No contract, no waiting for the next cycle. We carry it out for you. Book it on our bin collection in Kilmarnock page in about 60 seconds.
