The loft is the last room anyone packs — which is why a moving house loft clearance is worth doing early. Every box up there is a box someone has to carry down, load, drive and carry into the new house.
Sort it before moving day
- Go up once, early. Keep, give away, or gone — three piles, nothing else.
- Don’t move what you won’t unpack. Old toys, broken lamps, the box labelled “misc” from the last move.
- Leave the lifting to us. We do the ladder work and the lifting — you point at what’s going.
How it works
- Send a photo of the loft — John comes back with a price.
- Usually cleared the next day, seven days a week, anywhere in Ayrshire.
- We climb, carry and load it. You keep what you want.
- Disposed of legally — Johns Waste Management is SEPA registered.
Garage and shed too? Put them in the same photo. More on our loft and shed clearances.
A moving-day loft checklist
- Two weeks out: go up once and sort — keep, give away, or gone.
- One week out: send us the photo and get a price.
- A few days before: we clear it, so the removal team only moves what you’re keeping.
Why the loft matters on moving day
Removal quotes are based on volume. Everything in the loft that you’re not keeping still takes space in the van and time on the day. Clearing it first means the removal team only moves what’s coming with you — and the new loft starts empty.
Moving is also the best chance to be honest about what you use. If a box has gone unopened since the last move, it’s unlikely to be opened after this one. Clearing it now means one less thing to carry, one less thing to store, and a new loft that starts with space in it.
Questions people ask
How soon can you clear the loft?
Usually the next day — but booking a few days before the move gives you room.
Can you clear the rest of the house too?
Yes — rooms, garage and shed can go in the same photo quote. See our house clearances.
Do I have to bring everything down first?
No — we do the ladder work and the lifting. You point at what stays.
Is a moving house loft clearance worth it?
If there’s anything up there you won’t unpack, yes — clear it before the van rather than paying to move it.
