Getting rid of a fridge, freezer,
washing machine or cooker
Fridge freezer removal, washing machine disposal, an old cooker or a tumble dryer that’s given up: every white good is £30, collected from your home and booked online. John comes in for it, does the heavy work and takes it for proper disposal. He’s a SEPA-registered waste carrier, working out of Stewarton seven days a week and covering the whole of Ayrshire. Wheelie bins need emptying too? They can ride along on the same booking at £20 a bin. Sofas, beds and furniture are a bulk uplift instead, priced when you send a photo.
How do I get rid of an old fridge or fridge freezer?
Book it online for £30 and choose the day. John lifts it out of the kitchen, carries it to the truck and takes it away, so there’s nothing to drag to the kerb. A fridge and a freezer, or a whole kitchen’s worth? Each one is £30 and they all go on the same visit. Fridges and freezers can’t go in a Johns Waste Bag, so book them here.
What if the freezer is still full or iced up?
Empty it, switch it off and leave the door open the day before, with a towel or a tray underneath for the meltwater. An empty, dry freezer is lighter and safer on the stairs, and nothing drips through the house on the way out. It counts at the council too: East Ayrshire won’t collect a fridge or freezer on its uplift if there’s food waste inside.
How do I get rid of a washing machine or tumble dryer?
Book it the same way, £30 each. Before the day, switch it off and unplug it, and turn off the taps behind a washing machine. John carries it out from wherever it sits. If it’s upstairs or wedged into a tight utility, mention it when he texts to confirm.
Can you take an old cooker?
Yes, gas or electric, for the same £30. Get it disconnected first. For a gas cooker that means a Gas Safe registered engineer: under the gas safety regulations, a business doing gas work in your home must be on the Gas Safe Register. For an electric cooker wired into the wall, use an electrician; one on a plug only needs unplugging.
Council uplift, the tip, or John?
For one appliance you can manage outside yourself, and a wait you don’t mind, the council’s bulky uplift may suit you fine. Taking it to the tip yourself is the second option. East Ayrshire’s recycling centres accept white goods, but only once you hold a Residents’ Recycling Permit and have booked a time, and the fridge freezer still has to fit in your car. When it’s heavy, upstairs or squeezed into a tight space, that’s the job John does: £30, lifted from inside, on the day you book. There’s more on East Ayrshire’s special uplift against a private collection and how North Ayrshire’s bulky waste service compares. If the whole house is going, see house clearances instead.
