It’s the most common bin-day surprise: the lorry’s been, the bin’s been emptied — and the two bags you left beside it are still there. Here’s the East Ayrshire Council extra bags rule, and how it compares.
Side by side
What the council says
- “We will not uplift additional bags from beside your bin.”
- The lid has to be fully closed — overfilled bins may be left.
- General waste is every three weeks, moving to every four weeks as the new service rolls out.
- If it’s full early, the council’s advice is to take the excess to a recycling centre.

Or we come to you
No car-load to the tip, no booked slot. Any wheelie bin emptied for £20 flat, usually the next day, seven days a week — we carry it out for you. Book on our bin collection in Kilmarnock page, or any of our East Ayrshire town pages.
Making the bin go further
- Flatten boxes and put them in recycling, not the general bin.
- Food waste in the food caddy — it’s collected weekly.
- Keep the lid shut — an overfilled bin may be left.
When the bin is full early
The council’s advice for a bin that’s full before collection day is to take the excess to a recycling centre — which in East Ayrshire means a permit and a booked slot. The other option is a one-off empty from us.
