Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Maybole, Girvan — here’s how the South Ayrshire Council bulky uplift works, and how it compares with Johns Waste Management.
Side by side
How the council’s bulky uplift works
- A maximum of seven items per booking, household items only.
- A three-piece suite counts as three — the settee plus two chairs.
- A bed counts as three if it’s a base, a mattress and a headboard.
- Upholstered seating is priced item by item, because of how it has to be disposed of.
- No liquids or glass.

Seven goes quickly
A bed and a suite and you’ve used six. With us it’s one photo of everything, one price, lifted from inside the house — usually the next day. More on our bulk uplifts across Ayrshire and waste collection in Ayr.
Counting your items
- A three-piece suite counts as three.
- A bed with a base, mattress and headboard counts as three.
- A table and six chairs counts as seven — a whole booking.
Household items only
The council’s bulky uplift is for domestic household items, and it has its own list of what it won’t take. If your pile includes things that don’t fit the rules — or more than seven items — a single photo quote covers the lot with us.
It’s also worth checking how your items will be counted before you book. A table and six chairs is seven items on its own — a whole booking — and bundled waste counts as one item per bundle only if it’s tied, liftable by one person and no longer than two metres.
