Trade waste removal and commercial waste collection across Ayrshire, for tradesmen and small businesses, from one local carrier. Offcuts and rubble bags, strip-out and fit-out waste, the weekly bins at a shop or a salon, the end-of-job clear before a handover: John lifts it on the day you agree, as a regular run or job by job, and provides the waste transfer note. He holds SEPA registration to carry waste, and works out of Stewarton. Ring 07385 260093 with what you produce, or send a photo of the pile and John prices it.

Duty Of Care

Your duty of care,
and where John fits in

What are a business’s waste duty of care rules in Scotland?

In Scotland, a business must consider alternatives to disposal, such as recycling and re-use. It must also store its waste safely and securely, fill in a waste transfer note for each load of waste it transports, and usually hold a licence if it transports, stores, treats or disposes of that waste itself. Finally, it must check that any business it uses to deal with its waste is licensed, and keep proof, such as a copy of their licence. That is mygov.scot’s list in full.

On gov.scot, fly-tipping carries a £500 fixed penalty in Scotland, and more serious cases can lead to prosecution. The same page says using registered waste carriers helps to prevent fly-tipping and other waste crime.

Where John fits in

John is the registered carrier in that chain. He lifts the waste, takes it for licensed disposal and provides the waste transfer note. The check and the record-keeping stay with you, so keep the note on file with your proof that the carrier is licensed.

Davie’s shop has its trade waste lifted by John every week. In his words:

“Never missed one yet, and the transfer notes keep the council happy.”

What John collects

Site and job waste, offcuts and rubble bags, plasterboard (bagged separately), bathroom refurb waste, shop and office waste, salon and unit collections, fit-out strip-outs and end-of-job clears. Wheelie bins can go on the same regular run: see wheelie bin collection.

Soil, rubble and hardcore are priced on their own — send a photo, get a price. John can’t take hazardous waste: no asbestos, no chemicals, no gas bottles. A one-off pile at home rather than on a site? That’s rubbish removal.

Can a business use the council tip?

Mostly not, and each council puts it differently.

  • East Ayrshire accepts no commercial business waste at either of its recycling centres and may inspect vans and trailers on arrival. It tells businesses to contact its Cleaner Communities team about their options.
  • North Ayrshire says it is illegal to deposit commercial waste at its recycling centres, and site staff can refuse entry to a vehicle carrying trade or commercial waste.
  • South Ayrshire gives one e-permit to each residential property, and says its booking system helps it tackle abuse of the sites by commercial users. Commercial permit holders are asked to phone Waste Services.

For most trades, that leaves a registered waste carrier.

Working in someone’s home, or letting one out?

North Ayrshire’s bulky uplift page is plain about it. A contractor’s waste can’t go out with a household bulky collection, and the contractor is responsible for removing any waste the work creates. It also tells householders to check that a contractor has a waste carrier’s licence before work starts. Landlords are in the frame too: the council says letting owners and agents operate commercially and carry a duty of care over waste left behind in a property.

So the strip-out from a bathroom refit leaves with the job, and John can lift it straight from the site. If the homeowner has furniture to go as well, a bulk uplift for the furniture can be priced in alongside. Between tenancies, there are end-of-tenancy clears for landlords and agents.

How to set it up

One call, or a text with photos. Say what you produce and how often, then agree a regular day or a job-by-job arrangement. After that it just happens, and one message changes it. File the transfer notes as they come.

Licensed · Local · No Nonsense

Done properly, or not at all.

Cheap “man with a van” outfits fly-tip — and it can come back on you when they trace it. Johns is a SEPA-registered carrier: everything we lift goes through licensed, traceable disposal.

Straight Answers

Asked all the time.

What does trade waste collection cost?
It depends on what you produce and how often. Wheelie bins are a flat £20 each. For the rest, ring 07385 260093 or send a photo of the pile, and you’ll have a straight per-lift or monthly price back. The quote is free, and there are no contracts you can’t leave.
Do I need a waste transfer note for trade waste?
mygov.scot says a business must fill in a waste transfer note for each load of waste it transports. It must also check that any business it uses to deal with its waste is licensed, and keep proof. When John takes your waste, he provides the transfer note. Keep it on file with that proof.
Can I take trade waste to the council recycling centre?
Not in East Ayrshire, which accepts no commercial business waste at either recycling centre and may inspect vans and trailers. North Ayrshire says depositing commercial waste at its centres is illegal. South Ayrshire’s centres run on residential e-permits, and commercial permit holders are asked to phone Waste Services. For most businesses, that means a registered carrier.
Do you do regular scheduled collections?
Yes: daily, weekly or job by job. Tell John what you produce and how often, agree it once, and then it just happens. One message changes it. Wheelie bins can go on the same run.
Can you clear a site at short notice?
Usually next day, seven days a week. End-of-job clears and handover deadlines are exactly what a local carrier is for. Send a photo of the pile and John prices it.
Are you a registered waste carrier?
Yes. Johns Waste Management is registered with SEPA to carry waste, and what John lifts goes to licensed disposal. SEPA puts it simply: “You should only give your waste to a registered waste carrier”.
